Karen Olsen is one of the painters in our shop. She is a Graduate of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting, mainly acrylic and oil. She also has an interest in embroidery and sewing. Her works are a mixture of mediums, techniques and motivations. She is Costarican with a Chinese – Taiwanese ascent.
She explores topics as femininity, non-human animals and multicultural identity and recognition.
She has been a prolific artist since the beginning of her carreer, having been able to exhibit in Costa Rica’s main museum as well as internationally.
This embroidery is done with the technique called “painting with a needle”. It represents a knitted centepede with plant details and beads that make up the flowers.
It has a round shape of 11cm of diameter, which is 4.3 inches in diameter. This is a unique creation by Karen, done with careful thought and artistry in Costa Rica.
