“Flora Kung has been a successful women’s print and color-driven niche fashion brand since the 80s. It had its own boutiques in Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus, as well as other international department stores like Harrods.
Flora was born in Taiwan to an aristocratic family. She was passionate about art and calligraphy, and dreamed about becoming a ballerina. After moving to New York and winning the Children’s Wear award at Parsons School of Design, Flora left for Paris and started creating for some of its most prestigious prêt-à-porter houses.
She intended to make Paris her home, but after her visa expired, she returned to New York and founded her eponymous label. Unable to find the fabrics she wanted, Flora started creating her own prints and colors— a creative process which became her signature and continues to this day.
The label had success from the get-go. It was embraced by a diverse customer base who would regularly seek out new Flora arrivals in stores, and because they always got compliments while wearing their Floras, this base grew rapidly. The late iconic fashion director of Bloomingdales, Kal Ruttenstein, hailed her as the ‘Princess of Prints,’ and the catchphrase ‘Are You Very Flora Kung?’ became synonymous with ‘Do you dare to look your best?’ ‘Very Flora Kung’ was an expression for upscale vibrant colors and prints.”

Absolutely fantastic silk jersey Flora Kung dress. The fabric is all shaky and stretchy and shimmery. The print is outstanding–overlapping noir squares and triangles on a silky taupe background. Has a trompe l’oeil quality.
The dress is cut like a silk Pucci; it’s slim through the hips and slightly blouson under the arms and across the bust. Skinny sleeves, and it tapers to the knee. Small shoulder pads. Two buttons at back of neck. No lining. Absolutely gorgeous, and the first silk jersey Flora Kung I have ever seen. Like all of her gorgeous dresses, it was made with the utmost quality. Absolutely first-rate.
**Has a one inch mend on the seam of the right underarm. The mend is not at all noticeable unless you really look, but I have reduced the price.**
